#RoadToBOA2019 – Raging Speedhorn

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the Sophie Lancaster, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Raging Speedhorn – SOPHIE stage, Friday

Hello Raging Speedhorn and welcome back to Bloodstock. It has been a few years, how are you feeling about making your return?

Excited! A lot has happened since we last played Bloodstock. We’ve had a lot of downs with illness and a lineup change but with that we now have a more solid unit and even new music being recorded as we speak. It’s been a crazy rollercoaster of a time so we can’t wait to get onstage at Bloodstock and party with everyone. There ain’t no party like a Bloodstock / Speedhorn party!

You’re British metal legends, surviving and adapting to the changing times of music and metal. How have you managed to stay sane for so long?

Sane? Us? Never! Seriously though I think the key to us still being around and relevant is a mixture of two things. On the one hand we stick to our strengths and don’t try and change with the times or fit in, while on the other hand we all personally keep up to speed with new bands and music and carry a little of that influence into our music. I think also that because we like a good time and don’t take ourselves too seriously that helps. I mean, no matter what age who the hell doesn’t like having a good time? Especially with how times are and all the uncertainty in the World. Oh and being completely insane definitely helps.

Last time you played Bloodstock you had just reunited. Is 2019’s Raging Speedhorn a different beast? You seem stronger then you’ve ever been before.

Yeah, definitely a tighter and a happier band. Seems to be a lot less stress and a lot more creativity at the moment. We’ve been through a lot over the last 4 years and those bad times make for great reflection going forward if you get what I mean? I think also having Dave and Andy has injected some energy back into things. Different and more positive energy. We’re definitely firing on all cylinders again.

You’re playing the Sophie Lancaster Stage – the tent. This is going to be wild, isn’t it?

I’m really happy about that personally. I think when we played the main stage last time we maybe, at that point in the bands history, weren’t ready for it? I thought we played a great set but I just think maybe if the band now had played then we could of been so much better. Not because of band but because we hadn’t long since got back together and maybe weren’t fully match fit. Playing the Sophie stage this year is perfect for us. Up closer with the crowd and more intense is how we like it.

Are you sticking around all weekend? If so, who are on your ‘must-see’ lists?

I should think we’ll be around for most of the weekend yes. I mean why wouldn’t you with such a great lineup. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Boss Keloid, Soulfly, Anthrax, Scorpions as well as checking out the talent on the New Blood Stage. Oh and drinking lots of rhubarb cider, that’s a highlight for me!

Are you planning anything special? Or is it a matter of decimating the crowd and leaving no-one standing still?

We’ll definitely have something up our sleeve for sure. Maybe even some new songs. You’ll have to wait and see. The main aim though as always will be to play loud and heavy and party with all the awesome folk who attend. If it ain’t fun you’re doing it wrong I say. We really can’t wait to hit that stage and get the crowd going!
