#RoadToBOA2019 – Sulpher

It’s that time of year again, when in the run-up to Bloodstock we endeavour to interview every band gracing the SOPHIE, New Blood and Jägermeister stages from 8th – 11th August 2019. This means you’ve got a chance to read up on all your favourite bands set to play over the weekend and decide which new ones you’ll want to check out.

As ever, we’re predicting some horrible clashes because, true to form, there are some great bands across all three stages so you should start planning who you want to see.

Our thanks to all the bands / artists for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Sulpher – S.O.P.H.I.E Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from the UK – comprised of from the Midlands and London.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Rob Holliday and Steve Monti have been working together since 2000. Our debut album Spray came out in 2001 and our second album No One Will Ever Know is out now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The chemical sulphur is an essential element in life, and has many different uses which suits the fact that our music is very changeable in style and extremely chameleon-like.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I’m not sure anything can be truly unique these days.

What’s your live show like?

Alternative industrial metal with many elements. We like to create a mood with our music – it’s very dynamic in fact.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

We are Bloodstock virgins.

How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?

A couple of months back we got in touch with the organisers as we were booking up the summer months and there was a slot available so they said get on down and hammer it out with all you guys and girls at Bloodstock!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

It is a slick 45 minute set with a mix of our first album and our new album, with maybe a surprise or two in there.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Raging Speedhorn are on the SOPHIE stage a little later on so will be checking them out for sure, plus Queensryche, Soulfly, Scorpions, Cancer Bats, Anthrax and Dimmu Borgir.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’ve got a bunch of shows lined up in the next few weeks all in the UK which can be found on our social media.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Oh, there’s just too many wild moments to even try to narrow it down!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We will be drinking some of the finest tea shipped in from the Far East.
