When the editor in chief s Ricky and Shells of Moshville times enquiring about our availability to conduct an interview of none other that Maurizio Iacono of Ex Deo/Kataklysm fame, reactions ranged from excitement to absolute dread. Maurizio has devoted his entire adult life to the music scene with his aforementioned bands and to interview him was an honour for both Shells and I and we simply couldn’t refuse.
Ex Deo are on the verge of releasing their first album in four years, namely The Thirteen Years of Nero, and this is without a shadow of doubt the highlight of this project’s career so far. Both Shells and I were wondering what we could ask a man of this stature [quite literally, he’s built like a tank – Mosh] but what we found was a man who was an absolute pleasure to talk to and would love to interview again. Maybe we’ll get the chance as the band are going to be going on extensive touring for a considerable time following the release of the album.

During this interview, we talk about all aspects of the album, the legacy of Nero and all things Ex Deo. There is not a stone left unturned and there may have been a few mentions of Italy winning the Euros. Funnily enough, the interview was originally meant to happen the day after the final but Maurizio wasn’t available for some reason… I wonder why?
