#RoadToBOA2021 – As The World Dies

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are As The World Dies who play the New Blood Stage on Thursday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We have a mix of Brummies, Black Country Northern nutters so a bit of a mix really!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

That’s a bit more difficult as this all started waaaay back in 1994 with Scott and Chris. As the current lineup, around 12-18 months.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Scott came up with the name we now have, it’s a reflection of our times at the moment and is a statement that humans are such a destructive force

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

There’s bits of all sorts in there, the old cliché that we don’t have a specific genre I suppose. There’s influences from SYL, Napalm, Death, Phil Collins, Defleshed and of course Memoriam.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We don’t know yet! Bloodstock will be our debut gig! All I know is the energy in rehearsals has been electric and we are ready for some massive pits and heads to bang!

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

We are all regulars at Bloodstock and between the five of us we have graced every stage with previous bands so we are firstly fans but have had the pleasure of playing every part too.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We were honoured to be invited by Simon Hall as guests. He has seen us all in our various other bands to know what to expect so massive shout out to him for the trust.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Fuckin awesome, let’s do it….

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Starts with our fastest, SYL influenced track and ends on our most dramatic, big riff track. Everything in between is a blend of what’s to come.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Simple answer ‘Devin Townsend’. I have a soft spot for Conjurer as well.

What are you working on at the moment?

Waiting for the go-ahead on who we are releasing our debut through and dates, already started writing album #2.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

This isn’t the place to discuss! Come and see us live and we will show you wild!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

For Scott it’s Vodka & red bull, the rest of us are beer monsters so feel free to whet our appetites.
