#RoadToBOA2021 – Ghosts of Men

We had a breather last year, but again we’re aiming to bring you a little bit of info about as many bands as possible who will be featuring at this year’s Bloodstock Festival. Hitting the Jagermeister Stage on the Thursday (alongside Master Charger and others, due to the extra day being added) are Ghosts of Men…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Essex, North-ish Essex, sort of on the way to Suffolk, but also near the sea. Colchester is quite near.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Six or so years. Is that a long time? Seems to have flown by between gigs, and life stuff and other shenanigans.

Where does the name of the band come from?

I (Clegg) wanted a cool name for a band, and I had been watching a lot of Breaking Bad, so at first I was looking at Mexican names, and I found a few, then just translated them into English, and KAPOW! Fantasmas de Hombres became Ghosts of Men.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our music is rock, a bit dancey, definitely got a heap ‘o groove in there, and there’s some wonky bits an’ all. What do you think? Our uniqueness? well, there’s only two of us, and well, we aren’t aiming to be any genre, it’s just what comes out. We would love to be in the audience at one of our shows, maybe we can sort that out? Longer leads?

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

It’s a heady mix of music, smooth moves, the giggles, and a wallop. Why are people going to watch us? Bribery, coercion, guilt, all the usual things.

Have you been to Bloodstock before?

No, we haven’t been before, but it’s right up there as a bucket list festival. I mean, even if we weren’t playing it would be on the list. You look at all the videos and pics and see all the write ups and what’s not to love? The crowds seem to be pretty smart as well.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

A couple of years ago now, before the Covy D got really popular.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Banger, banger, banger, say hello, banger, banger, audience fun, banger, banger, banger, love in, banger, banger.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

Luckily we are playing last thing on Thursday on the Jaegerstage, so we aren’t clashing with anything. Really looking forward to seeing Ghosts of Atlantis, and Raging Speedhorn, and Skindred, played with them in Holland, THEY WERE FLIPPIN AMAAAAAAAZING. Devin Townsend, I mean, there’s about 140 top notch bands to choose from, we also love just wandering about and catching a surprise glimpse of a band that just takes you, ya know?

What are you working on at the moment?

REHEARSE REHEARSE REHEARSE

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We once rode in on separate buffaloes…

That’s a lie.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Nice cup o’ tea, maybe a coffee if extravagance is in the air. It’s important to us to be in a fit state to give everyone a decent show, after all, they are giving us their time, so we would be a bit rubbish if we didn’t give back eh? Afterwards though, cocktails, Jagerbombs, pints, cans, big bottles of Frosty Jacks, petrol, even own brand cola from Asda.
