#RoadToBOA2021 – Halveksia

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Halveksia who play the New Blood Stage on Thursday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re all based around Brighton.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Four of us have been playing together for about 4 years now, with our singer Jai ing last year just before lockdown.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Always a lot of inspiration from Finnish Melodeath scene and our guitarists liked the word scorn so just looked up the Finnish word for it and it stuck.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

It’s death doom, we didn’t set out to sound like this it just progressed into this sound and we just roll with it. It’s unique in that we just come out with riffs we have fun playing and go from there and enjoying it was always our main goal.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

There’s a lot of smoke and we feel that it comes across as very intense and big. We’ve only done the one live show so far so only limited .

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Three of us have been multiple times now, the other two it’ll be their first time attending.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

Came through via Simon offering us a slot, which we were incredibly grateful and surprised by.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Disbelief.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

A mix of some of our stuff off the EP we released in March, a song we wrote just to have fun playing and one we’ve only just finished. A bit of different styles that show off everything we like to play as a band.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Lowen is a big one for us to avoid clashing with, we’ve got our friends in King Goat that we’ll be wanting to catch as well.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’ve just finished another song that will be on our album that we’re slowly working towards.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Seeing a portaloo being crowd surfed during a Gutalax set.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Usually just a pint of whatever beer can get our hands on.
