We had a breather last year, but again we’re aiming to bring you a little bit of info about as many bands as possible who will be featuring at this year’s Bloodstock Festival. Hitting the Jagermeister Stage on the Thursday (alongside Master Charger and others, due to the extra day being added) are King Corpse…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re Black Country born and bred, strong in the arm and thick in the head! Wordsley/Stourbridge/Kingswinford/Halesowen.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
About six years now. It’s been a tough road playing whenever and wherever we can while we’ve had uni and work commitments but the ion for music has kept us going.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It’s a combination of two words: King and Corpse.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We’re a sludge metal band so we play it slow and heavy, but we aren’t afraid to throw in influences from all over. We all like a huge array of musical styles so we like to incorporate and steal things in ways which are obvious or subtle. We’re weird, but we think weird in a good way.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We’re all about the music. We’re going to keep talking to a minimum to allow both ourselves and the audience to embrace the heavy sounds of our heavy souls. We all like to let the music take over us physically, and that is unique to each of us. We encourage our audience on Thursday to do the same!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Mitch and Jack have been together twice, it is hands down their favourite metal festival in the UK. The sense of community is unrivalled, and the line ups are always killer. We hope to live up to that.
When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?
We all had the same dream, we were shot across time and space to an ocean of blood. Simon Hall asked us to count every drop of blood in the ocean. When we awoke, we knew it was our time to take Bloodstock.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We’re going to play some tunes from our latest EP Sacred Crimson, which came out at the start of the previous lockdown. We haven’t had a chance to properly get the tunes out there so where better than Bloodstock? We’re going to close with a fan favourite too, but you’ll have to come watch us to find out!
Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Judging from the line up poster there’s a very real threat that we’ll clash with our good friends and death metal heroes Ashen Crown. For Brummies, they’re good folk, and their riffs are killer.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re almost finished writing our debut album! We’re going over details and finishing demos, and saving up for studio time.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Of course, Mitch and Jack the insane amount of pits for Suicidal Tendencies at BOA 2018, and when we think back to Mike bringing up the legend in the wheelchair to rock out on stage, we’re reminded that the wildest acts in our scene are often the most wholesome.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Jack: lager, Toby: lager, Mitch: lager, sometimes cider. Different drinks, different needs.
