It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are A Horse Called War who play the New Blood Stage on Saturday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Various small towns and villages on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. Lovely, but a bit flat and boring. Tories everywhere.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We originally formed back in 2005 but split in 2010. We came back in 2015 and have been at it ever since.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Zakk Wylde’s Pride & Glory album. We were a lot younger back then and just needed a name!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, always heavy. I’m not really sure how unique we are…

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Chaotic and energetic. You should come and see us because we’re on at half ten in the morning when no one else is playing! What else you gonna do?
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
I don’t think any of us have been. We’re too skint and too boring. Band of Dads.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
East Anglia. Tough competition, great bands, awesome time.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
How do I tell the wife we have to cancel the family holiday? (Sorry that’s more than 10.)
What sort of setlist can we expect?
A little bit of everything, from the first tune we ever wrote up to the latest release.

Raging Speedhorn, Naplam Death, Conjuerer, Jinger, and all the top bands on APF Records
What are you working on at the moment?
Our first full length album.
