It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Sail who play the Sophie Stage on Thursday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
West Midlands, Birmingham area to simplify.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Since late December 2016! How time flies.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The original vocalist Tom came up with it and it just stuck.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Blend of all that is metal, be it thrash, death, black and hardcore, heavy, thrashy and melodic. We pander to no genre.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We bring an intensity and ion unlike any other, we will tear that stage off!
Have you played Bloodstock before? If so, when?
We played 2017 due to us winning Metal To The Masses Wolverhampton miraculously. Best experience of our careers until this year!
How/when did you find out that you’d be playing the SOPHIE stage?
We found out this year and keeping it quiet was so hard. We applied for 4 years. But this was the one and we will take full advantage of it.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Mostly the main tracks of our debut and a few new ones, excited to unleash these live.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Considering we are playing the Thursday, we have almost no clashes. So lucky.
What are you working on at the moment?
New record and materials, no spoilers I’m afraid.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Saw a guy poop all over someone’s neck and shoulders during Behemoth on 2012… that was grim.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
For me water, as a vocalist you need keep as clear lungs and throat as possible. A whisky wouldn’t go amiss.
