It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Beyond Salvation who play the New Blood Stage on Friday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Manchester, England. Denton I suppose to be more exact.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Beyond Salvation in its different forms / line-ups have been a band for around 6 – 7 years. The current line up has been together for about 9 months.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Sim our drummer came up with it originally mainly because it sounded cool. Might be something to do with the Decide song by the same name but you’d have to check in with Sim on that one to be sure.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
It’s just metal. But if you really wanted me to zone in I suppose Thrash would be at the heart of it but these days I really like to put our style of metal in the same gene pool as bands like Trivium & Machine Head. As for what makes us unique … I suppose a key thing these days is that we play in standard tuning and don’t drop tune. Few bands do it… but no many.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Energetic and to the point. I think our live show is where people really click and get us the most. We take it seriously obviously but at the same time I think you can see how much we enjoy what we do when we play live.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Some of the band have some of us haven’t. From the ones that have …. It’s a true representation of the metal community. Loud music, good vibes ad a real sense of community.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We “won” the Manchester event and by “won” I use that term loosely as with the pandemic things have been VERY different. Therefore we have to say a HUGE thank you to everyone involved with the Manchester M2TM for deciding to pick us to represent this year.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Proud, honoured, humbled and a real sense of accomplishment.

What sort of setlist can we expect?
It’s fast and again to the point. No messing around just want to get across what we do as quickly as possible with the opportunity that we have.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Oh this list could go on forever but off the top of my head lets go with…. Deified, Tortured Demon, Sylosis, Urne, Viscera, Bleed From Within, Conjuer, Evile, Ashen Crown & I’m sure there is many more ….
What are you working on at the moment?
Our debut album. It’s all written just getting everything shaped up for going into the studio. Watch this space!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
I think the guy head banging his face into the front of the stage in front of my feet (whilst we were playing) until his head starting pouring with blood. I would like to add I am pretty sure this was not because he was enjoying our set just purely because of the amount drugs he had obviously consumed during the evening. That was an interesting one.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Water… Sorry we’re not very rock and roll and keep it pretty clean cut before playing. However that first pint after a set is bliss!!!
