#RoadToBOA2021 – Ghosts of Atlantis

It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Ghosts of Atlantis who play the New Blood Stage on Sunday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Ipswich, Suffolk.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Rob and I ed this band in June last year. So, between lockdowns, 13 months with this line up.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It as a previous project that never came up from many years ago and was resurrected by Colin and Dex.

Describe your music, what makes you unique?

Symphonic, melodic death metal. Inspired by stories from Greek mythology but ultimately, we rewrite the stories to have a fantasy element. There are many elements to our sound, that ultimately people will define for themselves, what they want to describe.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We aim to deliver a high energy performance. I do not intend to step on the brakes and want to show that intensity.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

This is my third appearance as an artist and been many times before as a guest. I love the festival as a fan as well as an artist.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We submitted our debut album 3.6.2.4 (available now from Black Lion Records) to Bloodstock and was selected to play.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Pleased to bring our first ever performance to Bloodstock’s audience.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Expect two of the albums’ singles and a few more tracks thrown in. We aim for high energy; we want to keep the momentum high from start to finish.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

I was very glad I can see The Wildhearts on the Friday and have a few drinks. They’re a band very close to my heart. So ultimately, I am glad we are on a different day, and I can sing along with a few beers.

What are you working on at the moment?

Demos for album two have begun, we have penned the storyline and lyrical content for the concept. So, Colin is very busy in his studio building the orchestral parts for those.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

A friend of mine and I, ballroom danced through the pit for an Aborted set. That was strange.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Coffee, Black no sugar. If a beer, only the one.
