It’s that time of year where we set out to interview as many of the Sophie, New Blood, and Jager bands as we can in the lead-up to one of the most anticipated festivals of the year, Bloodstock. Answering our questions here are Odysseus who play the New Blood Stage on Thursday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Odysseus is based in Manchester as that is our middle ground for us all to meet up and practice but we all hail from parts of the northwest such as Wales, Morecambe, Preston.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band was created in early 2019 by myself and Kevin and quickly found Tom, Sam and Dylan to the band and has been growing from strength to strength from there.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name Odysseus comes from the greek mythology. We were drawn to this as Odysseus is a born leader and we connected with this he is known as the ‘’son of pain’’ and this transcribes through our music as is shown through my lyric content and drawn from our own personal experiences.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We are a blend of deathcore, tech metal and cavemen style riffs. We each bring something different and unique which hasn’t been blended together before in the north west. This helps us stand out as something different but within our set it offers something for everyone in the audience that the can connect to whether this being mighty breakdowns, hard hitting drums and riffs or the lyrics that you can relate or feel and use.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our performance is energetic and meaningful. We connect with the crowd through the lyrics and music you can see when a person is feeling what you are saying and we stay in that moment with you. We have songs you will want to pit to, scream to, cry to. We promise to ‘’bring it’’ and will never let an audience down.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Yes of course Bloodstock is one of the best metal festivals. It feels like home to us. We can’t wait to return, never mind play!

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We were asked to play after applying by the legend that is Simon Hall and we are so grateful for this amazing opportunity.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to
Bloodstock?
Honestly it was truly a gift, to have the feeling that all your hard work and dedication is paying off and will be playing among so many other amazing bands and working with the people that make Bloodstock happens to is truly a gift. It feels amazing and we are truly honoured to be playing.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
- Purified
- Wretched
- Primal
- Deliverance
- Crown Of Rot
- NEW SONG!!!! (name is a secret for now – BS debut)
- Thy Gathering
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them
play?
We are looking forward to seeing… Jinjer, Vexed, Loathe, Bleed from within, Sylosis, Napalm death, Hacktivist, While she sleeps, Conjurer and many more. We can’t wait to check out all the bands on the New Blood and Sophie lancaster stages.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently recording for our next video release which will be the song “Primal”. Working again with Abigail Henry for the video shoot and we have just written two new songs, one which will be making its debut at BloodStock.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
A shot of Tequila after each song at the drummer’s final gig with an old band, it was very messy but the crowd ed in and it was amazing.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
I am very boring. I only drink water before a show as a vocalist so I deliver my best vocals to the crowd, but after I always go for the tequila. The guys normally knock a whisky back or two.
