Road To Bloodstock 2023: Acid Age

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Acid Age play the New Blood stage on the Sunday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Northern Ireland, our base of riff operations being Belfast. Jude and I (Jake) are local to a place called Cookstown, famously known for the craft of sausages. Aran lives in Bangor situated on the coast of Northern Ireland.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

We have been active for over 10 years now, forming in 2013.

Where does the name of the band come from?

When Jude asked me if I’d like to “help out” 10 years ago, he’d already came up with the band name. I thought it sounded pretty cool. The name basically stemmed from a love of 80s B-movies and Thrash Metal!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We describe our music as “War Jazz”, our own brand of Thrash Metal. What makes our music unique is our collectively eclectic musical influences, ranging from Jazz Fusion, Psychedelic Rock, Death Metal and Thrash Metal among many others. The three of us have spent a lot of time as a trio crafting our sound and our own individual playing styles have really been a catalyst to creating this sound. We don’t really have any concrete rules when we write our music, we like to jam and see where each song goes and how many moods we can create within it.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Our live performance is intense and impressive, so I’ve been told. We have had numerous fans tell us that they can’t get their heads around how we create our big live sound. There’s a lot of sweating and more riffs than you can shake a plectrum at. The lovely headbangers at Bloodstock will us at the New Blood Stage if their faces have not been sufficiently melted off by Sunday!

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

For the three of us it will be our first time attending Bloodstock and we are bursting at the seams with excitement to be there, to check out the awesome bands and to get to play New Blood Stage.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We won M2TM Northern Ireland. It was an extremely tough competition this year.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Flabbergasted and totally electrified.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Our set list is a rip ride of aggressive tunes, its heavy, fast, progressive and groovy.

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

I’ve been wanting to see Tribulation for a while now, so fingers crossed I get to. We have been praying that we get to see Megadeth and Helloween too. For me there are a lot of bands on the Sunday I’m unfamiliar with, so I’m looking forward to discovering some new music!

What are you working on at the moment?

We are currently working on our next album, Perilous Compulsion.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I’ve seen a mate of ours dislocate his knee in a wall of death, that was something.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Guiness of course!
