Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Broken Calling play the New Blood stage on the Saturday…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Martin: From all over the shop, we’re like stray dogs that somehow found each other
Connor: Three From London and the other three, well if they were anymore south they’d be French
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Martin: As this band 4 years ish
Connor: The band started in 2019 with the 5 of us, but we’ve just bought in Tanzy Velane as our 2nd vocalist. Adding a new, fun dynamic to our sound!
Where does the name of the band come from?
Martin: we’re all pretty autistic so that’s probably a factor.
Connor: The name came from the fact we thought we had our “Calling” from our previous band, which was “Broken”. So we used that to create what we have now, and we haven’t looked back.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Martin: I think we sound like Linkin Park had a baby with Attack Attack via some synthwave shit.
Connor: Metal. But we take influence from many different sub genres. We just write stuff that sounds dope to us. Then throw a breakdown in.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Martin: because our set is like dropping a four year old in a ball pit… Absolute chaos but you can’t help but smile.
Connor: Energy. Fun. Anger. Banter. Just watch out for the 8 String bass and the feral Martin running about.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Martin: No but I know a lot of people who have and I’ve heard good things, I can’t wait for my first time.
Connor: First time, Can’t believe we’re playing it. But I’m Bloody excited.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
Martin: Kent, which is funny really because even though we’re all from here we very rarely play down this way.
Connor: Kent! Shout out to Stu Jessop, Pete Humphries and everyone involved. The Kent Talent is amazing. And we feel privileged to be repping them!

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Martin: Like the climax of a Tool song.
Connor: Shock. Euphoria. Confusion. And then someone said we’re playing Bloodstock. Which is still a nuts concept to me.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Martin: One with plenty of opportunities to bounce, fallover, sing, shout and cry. In my head ‘hurty wrist, bounce’ over and over.
Connor: Our Heaviest set. Our new single “Virus”. And just balls to the walls from start to finish
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Martin: Honestly I just hope we don’t clash with knocked loose, I really, really am looking forward to seeing them, especially after their new tunes just dropped. I think we got lucky in that our friends and other bands we want to see are on the other days, I’ve got to try so hard not to blow my throat on Friday.
Connor: If we clash with Knocked Loose I’m going to cry. But we also have some amazing mates in bands who are playing. Like Black Coast, Shoot To Kill, Beyond Your Design and Pryma. So we’d love to go cheer them on too
What are you working on at the moment?
Martin: Right now we’re prepping for Bloodstock and a small excursion to Europe in the winter, otherwise amassing demos and moulding them to be new songs.
Connor: We just dropped our new single Virus. We have a couple of shows and an EU tour in the works. As well as working on new music!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Martin: I don’t have much of a gauge on what’s wild and what’s not as it’s standard fair for me to try and climb everything I can and the more insane the crowd the happier I am.
Connor: Done? Hung off a balcony at a venue that used to be called The Monarch in Camden. Seen? A naked crowd surfer on a wooden pallet in Malta.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Martin: Anything caffeinated. Honestly I think my sweat could be sold as espresso at this point.
Connor: Maybe some liquid courage just before going on, but normally neck a can of energy drink. Monster Mango Loco if I can get it.
