Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Extort play the new Blood stage on the Saturday… If you want to know a lot more about them, Ricky had an in-depth chat with the band recently.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Originally, everyone is from Scotland except Alina (Ukraine) and Seb (half Spanish).
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Extort officially exists since 2019. We are playing with the current line-up since 2021.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Alina came up with the name back in the day, she liked the meaning behind “Extortion”. It seemed to fit the lyrics themes about Apocalypse, Insanity and Society. “Extort” seemed like a straight to the point shorter term for it.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
The band strives to create an innovative sound drawing from each member’s sonic taste, creating something fresh and not bound by any specific genre. The overall sound takes inspirationfrom Death, Groove, and Black metal. The apocalyptic and dystopian meaningbehind the lyrics expresses the band’s feelings for the current problems facing society whilstlooking for escape and wisdom in Folklore
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Whoever has seen us before, knows that we always put 100% into our stage presence and drive in live shows. Especially for big events, we tend to organise something special and involve the audience. For Bloodstock, we have a lot of plans for unconventional initiatives, merch competitions and the biggest crowd pogo jump that the New Blood stage has ever seen! Follow our socials for updates on the latest – an event with more info has now been created! Maybe that is why people would watch us instead of another band, but – real reason depends on them individually! We are just blessed and thankful for that!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Yes we have been to Bloodstock last year in the audience, we really enjoyed the community spirit of the festival. We were really wanting to come back again. And dreaming to play it one day! We are over the moon to finally realize that dream!

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won M2tm Scotland, all the bands were amazing and we feel truly honoured
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Over the moon, emotional and in disbelief!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Expect some of the tracks from our New EP (out in May 2023) and some even newer songs from the next album!
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Personally, Meshuggah – so I am glad to say we are safe (Alina).
What are you working on at the moment?
We are working on organising tours, festival dates and on writing new songs.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Definitely jumping in the crowd and jumping from big platforms onto stage!
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Usually a pint or two will do us! Sometimes I also do a bit of jager….important is not to do both at the same time ahah
