Road to Bloodstock 2023: Hidden Intent

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Hidden Intent play the Jager stage on the Friday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

G’Day! We are from Adelaide, South Australia (no one knows where that is) – the wine state.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Over 10 years! Good humour has kept us going and getting on sick shows and tours.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It was very inspired by the book/film “American Psycho” and my bass teacher’s band, Intended Victim.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’ve been labelled “Pub Thrash” – I think we’re unique as we’re a very Australiana take on thrash metal as a genre that sets us apart from other thrash bands. Basically, Airbourne if they were a thrash band is what we’re going for.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Raw, in-your-face Aussie/occa thrash metal with lots of energy and banter thrown in the mix. I think people know they are going to have a good time when they watch us.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Never been! I’ve been told about it by a few people about what to expect so we’re keen!

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

We found out via our email application, a classic case of good timing and being on tour with Scared Reich helped.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Mainly a lot of songs from our latest album “Dead End Destiny” and our previous album “Fear, Prey, Demise” with the odd Slayer or The Chats cover thrown in.

Which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I’d like to check out Sacred Reich on a big stage as I’m a huge fan, our drummer is keen to suss Killswitch Engage and In Flames.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re working on a new record and wrote a new song before we left on this tour which is a darker/sadistic song for us – will be interesting to see what direction we go on this one.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

One time in Dallas, Texas we were on tour with Lich King and their guitarist cracked onto an American bird during the show, that same bird broke her wrist in our pit and the venue had to call an ambulance – crazy times. Some shots of whiskey were had to aid the situation.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Normally Red Bull and a beer!
