Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Outergods play the New Blood stage on the Sunday…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from Nottingham.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
There were demos floating around between me (Nathe) and Sam around late 2020, and then by 2022 a full lineup had formed.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It comes from HP Lovecraft. The “Outer Gods” are cosmic entities. We just combined it into one word for aesthetic reasons.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
I think the fact we mash together many different styles of metal helps set us apart a bit. In some of our songs, it’ll switch from black metal to death metal, then to grindcore and noise.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our set doesn’t leave much room to catch your breath. There are many people out there who enjoy watching a set full of blast beats and (intentional) walls of noise, which is what they’ll get with us.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
We’ve been to Bloodstock before, and most of us have played Bloodstock before with other bands. It’s a very welcoming environment and a hub for up-and-coming bands.
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We reached out to Simon as he’s familiar with some of us from our other bands. He checked out our debut, liked what he heard and offered us a slot.
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?
Excited, grateful, and a bit nervous.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
30 minutes of abrasive and chaotic noises.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
Decapitated. That band is incredible and a massive influence. Vogg is the Dimebag of Death Metal.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re currently demoing our second album and hope to start recording it at the beginning of 2024.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Some woman got on stage during a Raised By Owls show (Sam and Alex’s other band), drank two cans of John Smiths in a row, crowd-surfed back to her friends and then puked all over them. Someone once threw a scone at Sam whilst he was on stage, too. Oh, and one of us saw a couple having sex in the pit at a Black Dahlia show.
Bonus story – there was a band who got so drunk before their set that the guitarist thought he was playing wireless, but his guitar was just unplugged.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
Cold bottle of water. Nothing exciting as I don’t drink.
