Road To Bloodstock 2023: Skora

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Skora play the New Blood stage on the Saturday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hi there! Four of us, Dom (vocals), Will (guitar), Sean (drums) and Matt (bass), are from the Worcestershire area and all went to school together at some point, meanwhile Harri (guitar) grew up near Stroud.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The band started in a garage around 2017/2018 and Harri ed us at the end of 2019, solidifying our line up as you see us now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

A few too many late nights on Google! It comes from an Indo-European language and stands for “skin” or “bark”.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Our sound is probably best described as progressive hardcore. We’ve got the raw aggression that you often find in hardcore, but at heart we’re just music nerds and can’t resist throwing in the odd funky time signature or off beat rhythm to keep people on their toes.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Energetic! None of us are big fans of standing still and so we plan to make full use of the stage, and the crowd. If there’s stuff to climb, we’ll have a go! Even Sean won’t stay hidden behind the drum kit if he can help it.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

None of us have been before! We’ve heard nothing but good things about Bloodstock though, it’s going to be awesome getting stuck into everything on offer. Fingers crossed the weather is on our side!

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

We won the Cheltenham M2TM. It was super tough, and the lineup was highly competitive, honestly every band that played deserved to be at Bloodstock. It’s an honour to get through and we couldn’t be happier to represent our home area.

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Shook! Our hearts nearly stopped!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

It’s going to be a full-on set! The crowd aren’t going to have time to catch their breath. We’re expecting a few pits!

Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Meshuggah for sure! The chance to see them on such a big stage is going to be something else. Knocked Loose is also high up on our list as they seem to be on an unstoppable rampage at the moment.

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re currently starting to work on our first album. We’ve already released a few singles and EPs, so want to challenge ourselves to something a little bigger. We record and produce all our music ourselves so the learning curve for an album is something we can’t wait to get our teeth stuck into.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The wildest thing we’ve ever done at a show is to use the PA as a climbing frame. It’s really a different perspective from up there…

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We’ve got to keep it simple and say a lager! Cheap and easy and it never lets you down. Just as useful for keeping the mood up after you’ve played too!
