Road To Bloodstock 2024: Lethal Evil

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Lethal Evil play the EMP stage on the Friday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hi. I’m the drummer Ernie and I’m from Uruguay, JP is the guitarist /singer from Argentina, and Charlie (bass) is from Latvia. We have all been living in London for a while.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Two years, more or less now. We got together in 2022 and have done 8 shows so far.

Where does the name of the band come from?

Coming up with a name is extremely difficult, so we started looking for combinations of words. One day in a pub after rehearsals, the name just came to my mind, I said “Lethal Evil”, and everyone was like, “Cool, that sounds awesome!” “Lethal” represents the thrash side, and “Evil” represents the death side of our music, so I think it’s a great combination of words, and reflects the band’s music.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Well, first of all, we are a groovy power trio, and as I mentioned before we mix thrash with death with a modern metal sound. Crushing riffs, thunderous drums, a powerful voice and catchy choruses in the vein of bands such as Pantera, Sepultura, Carcass, just to name a few influences.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Expect a headbanging frenzy from start to finish and songs you can sing along to! Also, we are one of the few, if not the only thrash/death metal bands on the EMP stage!

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I have played there twice before, and JP played last year, but it’s the first time for Lethal Evil. It’s a great festival – I’d say the best metal festival in the UK, so it’s an honor to be playing there again.

When/how did you find out you’d been selected to play at Bloodstock?

Around April, Simon Hall posted on Facebook offering bands to apply for a few slots that were available, we applied and were chosen among a few other bands. You can’t imagine how we felt when we got a message from Simon, telling us to check our mails!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We start with a fast thrashy song, then we slow down a bit with a groovy hard-hitter, then up the pace again, then a mid-tempo song and we end with our sing-along hit to finish off the set. Non-stop headbanging!

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

For me, of course, it would have to be Hatebreed, with their amazing breakdowns!

What are you working on at the moment?

We are in the process of recording our first album. We will release a few singles before releasing the album later on. Actually, our first single will be out just before Bloodstock, so keep your eyes peeled!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
I’ve seen nothing wild as of late, but I can once I was playing at the Garage in London a few years back with one of my previous bands and halfway through a song my right kick beater flew away and had to finish the song with my left foot. What a nightmare! In life you learn the hard way!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Don’t want to sound too boring but actually it’s coffee and water.
