Road to Bloodstock 2024: Dead Flesh

Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Dead Flesh play the New Blood stage on the Sunday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Mostly Hertfordshire, except for AJ who’s in London because he’s loaded or something.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

About two or three years now I think. I’m probably the worst person to ask for details further than half an hour ago.

Where does the name of the band come from?

As far as I can I liked how grim it sounded, had a cool ring to it. We wanted something a bit horrible and it kind of tied in with my feelings about animal rights, Dead Flesh feels like a bit of slap in the face and that’s how I want us to come across.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Genre-wise you could probably put us in the deathcore category but having such a varied taste in metal across the five of us, we draw influences from many different styles. We like to think we have interesting songs with some sort of lyrical depth which hopefully keeps things engaging.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We play hard and fast. High energy shows with lots of crowd engagement – if you’re looking for mosh pits and headbanging we’re the guys you want. There ain’t no standing still at a Dead Flesh show.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I’m a Bloodstock regular and AJ has been going since 2010! My favorite festival, small enough to walk around without getting lost and there’s a real sense of community with the fans.

Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?

Hitchin Metal To the Masses. We were in the final a few years back but won this time!

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Bloodstock?

Fucking ecstatic!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We’re playing lots of stuff from our debut EP and a track that hasn’t been released yet. It’s a mixed bag of chaotic, fast and dirty heavy that hopefully people will enjoy.

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I don’t think we’ll be clashing with any headliners but I’ll be pretty gutted if I miss Crypta. Rotting Christ are one of Nelly’s favourite bands and Chris is looking forward to Osiah.

What are you working on at the moment?

We just put out our debut EP, Dehumanise, so currently we are focusing on promoting that, playing shows and trying to build a bit more of a name for ourselves before we get to work on our next release. We recently signed with EMG so have some pretty cool stuff lined up for the future.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Watching someone stage dive head first into one of the pillars at The Underworld during a Gama Bomb set was hilariously memorable.

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

Cider for me but Nelly currently has a thing for Jagermeister!
