Our regular run-down of as many of the Bloodstock bands as we can get to talk to us! Divided By Design play the New Blood stage on the Saturday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
4 of us are from Hinckley, Leicestershire, and Alex (vocals) is from Wellesbourne.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The band its self has been a thing for almost six years, however, in reality we’ve only been serious for around four.
Where does the name of the band come from?
Jack (guitar) has a friend who was a chef. In the kitchen, they would play a game where they pour oil on the floor and run across it with knives, hence “Running With Knives”.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
The whole band has a vibrant array of interesting diverse tastes ranging from black metal, death metal, all the way to 80s pop, shredding guitarists like Steve Vai, and even musicals. No more is this evident in our catchy hooks and singalong choruses!
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our stage performance reflects our music, to be honest; vibrant, and energetic. We pride ourselves in being energetic on stage and not standing still despite the complexity of some of our riffs and licks.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Ciarian is a frequent Bloodstocker and it’s one of his favourite festivals. For almost everyone else in the band it’s brand new territory including camping at a festival… which will be an “enlightening” experience for some to say the least!
Which M2tM region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
Leicester M2TM
Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realized you were heading to Bloodstock?
Unreal, 3 years of finals to finally get the win!
What sort of setlist can we expect?
All our heaviest tunes and our newest single released Thursday 8th.
Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?
Sylosis and Malevolence! Absolute riff beasts!
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re trying to focus on more recording at the moment. Our writing process means we let songs mature and develop before we’re happy with them. This can take a few months and the added factor of cost has delayed releases, too. However, we now have a bank of songs we are happy with and actively recording.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We played New Blood alumni Nameless’ first-ever gig in a small, what can only be described as, “dungeon” in Stourbridge. In between every band was a drag act. Something none of us had ever seen before at a gig. Not to mention the stage was smaller than your average living room table.
What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?
We’re usually pretty tame pre-show maybe a beer or two or a rum and coke to calm the nerves…then when all the hard work is done…..we’re straight to the bar!
