Road to Call of the Wild 2025: Reckoner

We’re closing in on Call of the Wild and we’re going to be back for a second year! So we’re getting to know as many of the bands set to play the Trailblazer Stage in 2025 that we can pin down. Reckoner play the Friday.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We say that we’re Midlands based as myself (Dave), Ed and Jam are from Leicester/Nottingham. Phil lives in Oxford and Spencer is Lincoln so a bit all over the place in reality!

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Ed and I started the band in 2020 over the dreaded lockdown – we brought the rest of the band in between 2021 & 2022.

Where does the name of the band come from?

We often get asked if the name originated from the Radiohead song, but it was actually from looking through book titles as inspiration. That being said, we’re all big Radiohead fans!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

A lot of influence is taken from music quite far removed from “heavy” genres. We’re huge movie nerds and listen to a lot of sound scores – we try to incorporate a lot of that into our music. Aside from that, I (Dave) produce a lot of bands & artists, so I’m always working on different musical projects which in turn influence my taste!

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We’re pretty frantic on stage… Don’t be surprised to turn around and find a few of us in the crowd whilst we’re playing! I guess we’re maybe slightly different in genre than a lot of the bands on the bill, so could be something different for people to watch!

Have you been to Call of the Wild before? What did you think?

This will be our first time at Call of the Wild so pretty excited to see what it’s about!

Can you put into 10 words or fewer how it felt when you realised you were heading to Call of the Wild?

It’s a festival that I know Phil has been wanting to get to for ages, so we were pretty excited when we got the offer. I know we’re maybe a little different to some of the other acts on the bill, so we’re looking forward to switching things up! [That’s way more than ten – Ross.]

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Start to finish it’ll be an explosive one!

Stage times haven’t been announced yet, so which other band do you most hope you’re not clashing with so you can see them play?

I’ve been checking out some of the lineup and Asomvel look like a ton of fun – definitely music to get our drink on to!

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re about to release a new single and are finishing up writing for a new EP due to be released by the end of the year .

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We recently put on a show in Witney which got a bit crazy… A lot of giant inflatables were involved and we managed to get the crowd onstage at one point! Weirdly we’ve had a few dogs randomly turn up at a couple of shows… We adore dogs, but maybe a loud show isn’t the place for a pup!

What drink do you throw back to get yourself fired up before going on stage?

We all love a good Guinness but Phil and Spencer have definitely got a penchant for Soju!

Melodious tones sliding into the punch of real power. Wonderful.
