First: Bowling For Soup are not splitting up.
There, got that out of the way. They are, however, reducing/stopping touring so that the band can focus on other projects and also – and I can get this – their families. Fifteen years of touring incessantly has got to take a toll on any band, especially one where most, if not all, of the have families and children at home.
First up is a UK tour (not including Ireland for which Jaret apologises in the video below) in October, their usual stint. Dates are beneath and tickets go on sale on April 11th. There will also be VIP tickets available for the usual acoustic set, meet ‘n’ greet, footrubs…
Only one band will be coming with them, allowing the band to play a longer set than usual. However, I note that in Glasgow they’re playing the ABC which seems to have a shitty student disco almost every bloody night so this will probably involve an early start to fit in with the forced early curfew. You have been fore-warned!
There are plans for a farewell US tour in so much as there will be one, but no dates or other arrangements as yet.
Next year – June – will be the band’s 20th anniversary. They’re working on a re-recorded greatest hits and a covers album to celebrate.
So, plenty of stuff planned but this is your last chance to catch BFS live. I’d be amazed if they didn’t hit a festival or two in the coming years, but tourwise this is it. If you’ve not seen BFS before, make the effort. They’re one of the most “fun” bands I’ve ever seen live, not just one of those who turn up and play a few songs.
I really will miss my annual BFS show!
