What to say? I’ll leave it to other news sites to do a far better job than I to keep you up to date with the goings-on in Paris this evening. As things stand, we’re aware of several explosions, a pair of suicide attacks and a large-scale hostage-taking at the Bataclan concert hall where Eagles of Death Metal were playing.
Scanning Twitter, it’s a small comfort to hear of those who have managed to escape the concert venue including the headlining band and many of their crew.
Thoughts, though, must be with those who have remained trapped, their families and their friends. As I type, it is being announced that the police have stormed the concert hall and we can only hope that they bring this incident to an end with as little bloodshed as possible – at least as far as the officers themselves and the hostages go.
On a personal note, I can only say that I’m horrified that such a wonderful city is suffering this atrocious tragedy at the hands of a tiny number of people who are smearing the names of countless others.
To all of the French friends and bands I am fortunate enough to know, and those who are visiting the country at the moment – be strong and I hope all those you know are safe and sound. To my many Muslim friends who have shown me nothing but kindness over the many years I have known you, believe that I will stand by you if anyone dares blame you for the actions of a minority claiming to act in your name.
