Worcester City fans release protest single

City Punk 192Worcester City FC ers have come together to write, record and release ‘CityPunk’ after becoming increasingly frustrated about delays caused by local Conservative councillors, for their football club to return home to Worcester.

The song, based on Ewan MacColl’s “Dirty Old Town”, was adapted to the cause after a few beers, following the last minute abandonment of a “home” fixture on Saturday 6th February.

‘CityPunk’ is available to stream and through BandCamp, with proceeds going towards the “Fighting Fund”.

The club, having been in exile since 2013, have been playing their home games at Kidderminster Harriers’ Aggborough Stadium, 14 miles from Worcester.

Worcester City ers Trust, an organisation set up by a group of extremely dedicated fans, have been working tirelessly for the last 3 years, on a plan to help the club to return to the city. Thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours have been spent on a detailed planning application for a 4,419 capacity community stadium at Perdiswell, Worcester.

The current Conservative leadership and the council’s managing director, Sheena Ramsey is known to have reservations about Perdiswell. Before Christmas, she told club representatives the authority was looking at possible “alternative sites” for the club, despite a planning application for a 4,419-capacity stadium still working its way through the system. Both the Club and ers Trust are still waiting on these alternatives.

This was the tipping point for the club’s ers and the “Fighting Fund” is now in full motion, to trigger a response from local councillors.

Give a small club some !
