In Flames announce new album, stream new track – review here!

In Flames - BattlesIn Flames have announced that their twelfth full-length studio album, Battles, will be released on the 11th of November through Nuclear Blast. The announcement was accompanied by the first single from the album, “The End”, which is available to listen to down below.

“The End” sounds like classic In Flames, but old-school fans might be disappointed to hear that it is more akin to their most recent albums (A Sense of Purpose / Sounds Of The Playground Fading) rather than their heavier, older albums such as Colony and The Jester Race. However, the band do seem to have moved away from the more commercial sound of their 2014 release Siren Charms (I personally love “Rusted Nail” from that album, but as a whole it was arguably not their best work).

The song begins with strong drums, a riffy guitar and harsh vocals, then moves into clean vocals for the pre-chorus and the rest of the track. The chorus is quite up-beat and almost pop/rock in style, and there is the hint of a children’s choir towards the end of the track which may not appeal to fans of classic melodic death metal, but I think the song might translate quite well when performed live.

In Flames return to the UK in January 2017 on an eight-date arena tour ing Avenged Sevenfold, together with Disturbed.

In Flames also have a live DVD set for release on 23 September titled Sounds From The Heart Of Gothenburg which features twenty tracks recorded in the hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden in 2014. Pre-orders available now in the following formats:
