Hungrs: Brazilian father and son duo debuts first single, “Somebody Says”

Heavy metal forms one of the strong foundations of the relationship between father and son in the Hunger family. From Marcos, the 44-year-old father, to his 16-year-old son, Lucca, music now becomes an even more powerful bond with the birth of the band Hungrs, a duo that thrives on groovy riffs, gritty vocals, deep bass, and heavy sound. Their debut release, “Somebody Says,” is already available on streaming platforms and as a music video.

Marcos and Lucca Hunger are from Atibaia, in the countryside of São Paulo. Lucca is responsible for composing and recording all the instruments (drums, guitars, and bass), while Marcos handles the lyrics and vocals.

The synergy between father and son is evident in “Somebody Says,” which opens the door to other singles leading up to the full album release, already titled – suggestively – Simbiose (Symbiosis).

“Somebody Says” is dynamic, with crystal-clear production by Jonathas Peschiera. The groove sets the tone, moving between moments of death and thrash metal, always with a modern edge.

The single’s cover was designed by Turkish artist Abidin Katipoğlu. Known for his distinctive portrait style, Katipoğlu was inspired by the album’s concept from the moment the name Simbiose was decided (which means “association between two living beings that coexist”). Naturally, the idea was to see both faces, father and son, united as one.

Hungrs: A Father-Son Collaboration

In his early twenties, Marcos formed an original band called Autofobia in the city of Santos (SP). Although they played a few local shows and had a handful of songs, the band didn’t take off due to other responsibilities, and eventually dissolved.

Now, in order to encourage his eldest son, Marcos came up with the idea of forming a band to help Lucca develop his creativity in songwriting. And thus, Hungrs was born. Lucca has been taking drum lessons since he was 7 years old and has also been learning guitar for several years.

Recording at home, Lucca composes the songs, playing all the instruments. Marcos listens to them, and as inspiration strikes, he writes lyrics for each one.

To ensure the final quality of the tracks, Jonathas Peschiera (from Noiseforge, and also the bassist of the band AXTY from Campinas) handles the mixing and mastering.

Lucca’s musical formation came naturally through his father’s influence, who would always play music while driving or watching concerts and music videos at home.

As a result, many bands are mutual favourites, such as Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Tremonti, and many more that are too numerous to list. Lucca is also a big fan of Gojira, while Staind is one of Marcos’ influences.

The songs, sung in English (to reach a wider audience and because it suits the style of music better), deal with feelings, anxieties, and life events.

Lucca shares his excitement about the project: “I’m really excited about this project. It’s a chance to finally show people what I’ve been creating at home, together with my dad, who brings a lot of great ideas that take the songs to the next level. The best part of this partnership is the connection between us, especially in our shared musical tastes.”
