Formed in the state of Minas Gerais back in 1995, Eminence has gained recognition for nearly 30 years, both in Brazil and abroad, performing in countries such as Colombia, New Zealand, the United States, Japan, Suriname, Mexico, China, and across Europe. With a sound that transits between groove metal and deathcore, bringing in some modern and even slightly industrial elements, the four-piece has been at the forefront of modern metal in their country since the beginning. They have been part of major festivals such as SXSW, one of the most important independent festivals in the United States, held in Austin, Texas, as well as the renowned CMJ festival in New York City.
Between 1999 and 2006, Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz, of Sepultura fame, now the man behind the guitars over at Troops of Doom was responsible for the band’s low-end, lending his 4-stringed talent to their first two albums, that year’s Chaotic System and 2003’s Humanology. Nowadays, their lineup consists of Davidson Mainart on bass, Bruno Paraguay on vocals, Alexandre Oliveira (also of The Troops of Doom) on drums and founding man Alan Wallace on guitars.
In 2015, Eminence was invited to perform at one of the biggest rock festivals in the world, Rock in Rio, and in the same year, they played at the European edition of the Woodstock festival in Poland. During the pandemic, the band recorded their most recent album Dark Echoes, produced by renowned Danish producer Tue Madsen (Heaven Shall Burn, Meshuggah, Behemoth). The album features collaborations with Márcio Buzelin from Jota Quest, Bjorn “Speed” Strid from Soilwork, and Jean Patton from Project46. In 2023, Eminence was invited to perform for the third time at one of the world’s biggest festivals, Rock in Rio 2023.
In 2024, the band was invited to Sepultura’s farewell tour in Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, and also to perform at Summer Breeze Brazil and KnotFest Brasil. It may seem like the year has just begun, but 2025 has already brought major milestones for the band, including a performance alongside Nervosa at the Sandstorm Metal Festival in Dubai and a seven-date tour across Europe with the Dark Still Echoes Tour.
Once again working with Tue Madsen, they are already preparing new material, having begun recording at Denmark’s Antfarm Studios. But there’s still time to catch the last album live – at the end of this month (Friday, the 30th), they’ll bring the Dark Echoes tour to São Paulo, performing at SESC Belenzinho.
