And with no surprises whatsoever, Sonisphere‘s big announcement today was that Iron Maiden and Metallica would be two of the headliners for 2014. Given that Metallica were already on the bill for at least one of the other Sonispheres this wasn’t exactly an earth-shattering shock.
What is surprising is that this is apparently the first time both bands have been on a festival bill together in the UK (or co-headlined to read elsewhere). I can’t believe this is the case. Really?
No word on the Maiden set yet (though I doubt they’ll be doing last year’s superb “Maiden England” performance), but Metallica are doing “By Request”. One new song and seventeen picked by fans voting on facebook or something. Just get them to play Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets right through and I’d consider the remotest possibility of being tempted. Maybe.
Further north, Les-Fest 2014 has announced its first headliner in the shape of Dirty Youth. They’ll be rounding events off on the Sunday night and topping a list including the likes of Exit State, Massive Wagons, Spill Sixteen and Inferno.
More details on all of these bands via New Band of the Day in coming days/weeks!
