This Sunday, December 4th sees Ally Dickaty (The Virginmarys) embark on a series of acoustic sets around the UK plus one date in Dublin, Ireland. But this is no ordinary tour. Following a successful foodbank event in his home town earlier this year, Ally put out a call to his fans via The Virginmarys’ Facebook page.
He asked people to reach out if they were able to organise an event where Ally would come and play for the entry fee of a bag of shopping for local foodbanks. And reach out they did!
This band are known for their punk rock attitude to writing and performing. There is a constant theme of social issues running throughout their music, which draws a strongly connected fanbase. True to his word, Ally doesn’t just write and sing about whats wrong with this world, he gets out there and does something about it. As expected, the fans rally round. Seven tour dates are almost immediately confirmed. Speaking on Facebook, Ally is overwhelmed by the response:
Absolutely blown away by the amount of and goodwill received since posting my message, seven dates confirmed in four days!
These stripped back events are going to be incredibly special and hope to raise awareness and donations to local foodbanks and homeless charities. I’ve been inspired to host my own event and hope to make it a huge success. Dates and links below.
