Four musicians who hail from London, England are putting a mark on the industry by doing, dressing and saying exactly what they want without fear intervening. You may know of dark pop’s very own favourite four piece, The Courtesans. If not…
This year sees the release of their EP Better Safe than Sober, out Friday 31st March. Today, we’ve been given the opportunity to listen to the EP’s first single, “Mesmerise”.
“Mesmerise” opens in a tone that proves dark pop is a real thing. “Mesmerise” is about obsession, how the mind loses aspect of everything, so you become consumed by that obsession. Sinead la Belle’s vocals stress the feeling of the track’s meaning, underlined with a trip hop soundtrack. Two minutes in, the darkness of this tune erupts with Saffire Sanchez’s guitar exploding like an Amanda Nunes swinging punch. Vikki s beats the flow in tangent with Agnes Jones on bass. Obviously there is more to come as “Mesmerise” is the first to be released.
Get involved, listen to The Courtesans. Even better, go see them live and this expressive rock band…
