The title means “dreamer of forthcoming events” and according to their website, the four Icelanders have taken their already impressive evolution one step further. Amalgamating haunting melodies, psychedelic phases, as well as strong undercurrents of classic rock and hard rock with echoes of their metal past.
The first single from the new album, “Ísafold”, was released on 2nd March, with an accompanying video based on the album artwork.
While the track certainly has the trademark emotive Sólstafir sound, it does arguably sound a little simpler than some of their previous work particularly the drumming at the start of the track. The band have also announced a UK & Europe tour for June with tickets going on sale on Friday 10 March. The UK dates are as follows:
- 11 June – The Haunt, Brighton
- 12 June – Arts Club, Colchester
- 13 June – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
- 14 June – The Old Blue Last, London
These venues are rather small compared to their last visit to the UK back in May 2016 which saw them play the 800-capacity Islington Assembly Hall. The venue for their London date this year holds just 150 people. Hopefully this tour is just a taster, built largely around their summer festival dates, and they will return later in the year with a proper tour.
You can pre-order the album in all sorts of exciting formats here.
