There are more festivals than you can shake a big spiky stick at going on throughout the UK and Europe over the summer months. We’re hitting a couple of our usuals, as well as some others this year. In the “We’ll Be There” series, we’re going to keep you up to date with the ones where someone from Moshville Times will be around, soaking up the rock and metal (and beer and pizza…)!

First up, Metal Days in Slovenia which has one hell of a lineup with the “Newcomers” stage still to be announced. It’s this third stage which intrigues us, made up of unsigned bands who submit their own material for consideration. The list of bands hitting that stage isn’t on the festival poster as yet, but includes the likes of Moshville Times favourites Ten Ton Slug, ’s Bearded Bastards, Slovenia’s own Vasectomy and Athiria from Austria… plus about another thirty or so independent acts.
And then there are the two main stages. Named for a fallen metal comrade and friend of the festival who ed away two years ago, the Boško Bursać stage features the blacker and more evil of the acts on show. The full poster is off to the side, but to pluck just a handful from the impressive list we have Hecate Enthroned, Hate Eternal, Shining (SWE), Goatwhore, Watain, Belphegor, Primordial… you get the idea.
The Ian Fraser Lemmy Kilmister stage, named for some dude who was in a band apparently, has a lineup comparable to any other major festival Europe-wide. The five (five – did we mention this is a 5-day festival) headliners are Behemoth, Accept, Kataklysm, Judas Priest and Children of Bodom. Elsewhere on the bill are personal favourites Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, Soulfly, Tremonti, Alestorm, Girlschool and Coroner plus a heavy metal ton of others.
So, yeah, 5 days. In a location that looks like a beauty spot by a river 20 minutes walk from a gorgeous little town. All tickets include camping, showers and phone charging plus there’s the benefit of eastern Europe being comparatively cheap so the beer and food won’t destroy your bank balance.
Oh, and the ticket price? €150 plus fees which works out at around £135 for the basic ticket. Early arrival and car parking knocks the price up to €200, but that’s still bloody good for five whole days.
If you’re more the hotel type then you’ll have to look into a taxi or hiring a car as all nearby accommodation seems to have gone already (no surprise!), though it’s very reasonably priced if you shop around.
More updates as we get them, but this looks like one that’s well worth adding to your tick list for 2018. We’ll be there!
For more information, check out the festival website. Tickets can be bought direct from them or from any of the acts playing the Newcomers stage. Shuttle services for a very reasonable price run from various airports in the region.
