80s Artists Tours! Adam Ant, Stray Cats, The Melvins and Eagle-Eye Cherry all announce dates

Pretty much by coincidence, we’ve had notification in of four acts who made it big announcing UK dates in the coming weeks and months. So for those who are as old as our creaking Editor in Chief, here’s a rundown…

Adam Ant

Pop icon Adam Ant performs his landmark, solo album Friend or Foe for the first time, live in its entirety (as well as classic chart-topping singles and personal favourites) across the UK from 7th November to 12th December. Tickets on sale from Friday 8th March at 10am through BookingsDirect.com.

The Friend or Foe album was Adam’s first release as a solo artist and included three hit singles. The massive hit “Goody Two Shoes” reached #1 in the UK, was also #1 in Australia and hit #6 in the USA Billboard Chart. “Friend or Foe”, the single, was another top ten hit in the UK while “Desperate But Not Serious” was the album’s third UK smash.

Friend or Foe his most successful solo album to date, made #5 in the UK and was certified gold album status on both sides of the Atlantic after selling over 100,000 copies.

Stray Cats

Brian Setzer (guitar, vocals), Lee Rocker (bass, vocals) and Slim Jim Phantom (drums, vocals) – original founding of the iconic and acclaimed American rock and roll trio – are celebrating their 40th anniversary in 2019 with a new album and tour.

The Stray Cats have titled the album 40. Marking their first new album in 26 years, it will be released on May 24th via Surfdog Records and distributed by Mascot Label Group (CD, LP, Digital) in Europe and the UK (CD, vinyl, digital). The song titles alone – including “Cat Fight (Over A Dog Like Me),” “Rock It Off,” “Mean Pickin’ Mama,” and “Devil Train” – instantly let listeners know they’re in for a non-stop rocking time.

Following the album release, the band will be on the road including the following UK dates:

  • Sun 23 Jun – 02 Academy, Birmingham
  • Tues 25 Jun – 02 Apollo, Manchester
  • Wed 26 June – Hammersmith Apollo, London
  • Thurs 27 June – Hammersmith Apollo, London

The Melvins

Following their recent US tour that also included the band opening the Chris Cornell Tribute at the Forum in Los Angeles, The Melvins are set to return to the UK and Europe for a run of 2019 tour dates this June and July. Their latest, Pinkus Abortion Technician, will be available on vinyl for the first time as a double 10″ set, incoming via Ipecac Recordings on March 29th.

The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers).

UK dates on their tour are as follows:

  • 16 June, 2019 – Brighton, England – Concorde 2
  • 10 July, 2019 – London, UK – Camden Electric Ballroom
  • 11 July, 2019 – Manchester, UK – Gorilla

Eagle-Eye Cherry

It was in 1997 that Eagle-Eye first began writing his debut album Desireless in his bedroom in Stockholm with just an acoustic guitar and a handful of ideas. What emerged was a phenomenally successful album that peaked at number three in the UK charts, and has sold 4 million copies worldwide. Desireless featured two top 10 UK singles “Falling In Love Again” and the aforementioned “Save Tonight” that for a while dominated worldwide airwaves on their release.

“Many ask if it’s a burden to have such a famous song… I really see it as ‘a good problem.’ I’m convinced I would have liked it even if someone else wrote it,” says Eagle-Eye.

Over time the pace of touring, promoting and recording took its toll on Eagle-Eye. “I got a little lost, felt a lot of pressure. I guess I was close to burning out.” Today Eagle-Eye is better at balancing the artistry, extensive, packed European tours, and his second love of acting.

Recently, after falling in love with the city of Nashville, he released album Streets of You in 2018, a fantastic collection of personal country-tinged pop songs with the same infectious choruses that first brought him to the world’s attention. Eagle-Eye Cherry’s live shows will feature some of the best tracks from ‘Streets of You’ as well as all of his hits. Save the date.
