As part of her BA Commercial Music, Katie Wills is putting on a couple of events which we are sure will be of interest to a lot of you out there. We’ll let Katie tell you a little more…
I want to try and tackle the gender inequality within rock and metal.
I am also especially keen on collaborating and connecting with local and independent music entities whether that’s radio stations, bloggers, podcasters, networks, groups etc and trying to form a platform that promotes all entities, particularly groups such as this, that are rooted in this community.
The project is essentially two pop up Rock and Metal conventions, kind of like a ComicCon or music conference/convention but specifically for the rock and metal community in Scotland. The first event will be at The Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh on the 3rd of March next year. The event will include guest speakers, a discussion, a live podcast, instrumental clinics/workshops, an open stage jam and an evening performance showcase with three rock/metal bands. There will also be stalls with vendors i.e. photographers, videographers, music shops, artists, record labels etc for anyone looking to book something specific for their band.
The idea of the project is to provide and bring together a networking, educational and promotional platform for musicians, bands, creatives and anyone within this space who want to meet others, learn and find opportunities, specifically for this community as there aren’t as many community events for the rock and metal world in Scotland.
