New band, but some familiar names. When Disturbed announced a hiatus some months ago, it would have been unusual for the not to find another project to keep them busy.
Device is such a project, this one fronted by David Draiman. Alongside him in kicking the band off is ex-Filter guitarist Geno Lenardo. It sounds like the band will be touring, as well, as they have hired Will Hunt (Evanescence) on drums and “Virus” (Dope) on guitars. From what I can make out, Virus will be replacing Lenardo for touring duties.
Draiman’s voice was always the most identifiable part of Disturbed’s sound, so needless to say there’s a degree of similarity with Device. There’s nothing wrong with that, though (if you liked Disturbed – for some reason they attract a lot of hatred), and the overall sound is nice, punchy and heavy.
The attached track is called “Vilify” and is being released as a single. The self-titled album is due out on April 9th and features guest appearances from (amongst others) Geezer Butler, Lzzy Hale, Serj Tankian, M. Shadows and Glenn Hughes.
