Friday Video Roundup: This Be The Verse, itoldyouiwouldeatyou, Destruction, Nihil

*click* Hey, this is Moshville Times. We’re out of the office at the moment enjoying Gloryhammer at Bloodstock around now. Please leave a message after the videos…

This Be The Verse – “Unveil”

We’re featuring this as one of Ryan’s new work colleagues is in it! Which is as good a way as any of getting your video out there… Thing is, it’s a pretty rocking track as well. This Be The Verse will be touring with Black Peaks and Heck in September, so keep your peepers peeled for them at a venue near you.

itoldyouiwouldeatyou – “Get Out Of Bed”

Seven-piece emo outfit itoldyouiwouldeatyou have just released their first single, “Get Out Of Bed”. It’s accompanied by a video directed by Ben Pollard.

“Get Out of Bed” is a perfect example of ITYIWEY’s capability in expressing their creativity both lyrically and musically. It wonderfully merges math-rock with emo and warmly comforts you with vocalist Joey Ashworth’s soft and calming vocals. The song itself tells the story of Joey’s mental health and his relationships with ex-partners and friends. Joey was kind enough to share some thoughts on the track:

In short, I was depressed and didn’t want to get up. I tried not to obsess and I couldn’t, I tried not to despair and I couldn’t. Instead I put all my effort and hope into a relationship, which, sidenote, no one should do ever. This song is about recognising that desperation and having a go at shrugging it off in a self-aware way.

Destruction – “Generation Nevermore”

Iconic thrash metal band Destruction released their new masterpiece Under Attack on May 13th via Nuclear Blast Records. The band has followed it by ing the lyric video for the track “Generation Nevermore”. Frontman Schmier states:

Did you ever ask yourself how is it possible that the global population just loves to make cash with killing our planet and our fellowmen and doesn’t give a fuck? Where is the wake up call of our political leaders in charge? Mankind does not really wanna have a look in the mirror till it’s too late … and this is an angry thrash song about that sad fact!

Nihil – “Enslaved”

Boston-based sludgy, hardcore band Nihil has released a new music video for their single “Enslaved”. The track comes from the group’s debut full-length Foundation, a crowdfunded effort that will be released on November 5th. Vocalist Jake Boes has this to say about the song:

Enslaved was the last song written for Foundation, but the first single we released. The intensity and anger of the vocals really captures the mindset of the moment we wrote it. Lyrically, the song deals with the frustration of feeling trapped in life. Giving your blood, sweat, and tears to a cause and seeing nothing in return. It’s a concept I’m sure a lot of musicians understand very well. We live in a society that rewards ruthlessness and greed, a society in which those at the top get where they are on the backs of others.

The video for “Enslaved” was shot by Victoria Boecklin in New England over two days. “Victoria had the idea of a man drenched in the blood of another, cleansing himself of his sin, and disassociating himself from it through religion,” says Boes.
