Wednesday Video Roundup: Devin Townsend Project, Vasa, Devilskin, City of the Weak

Midweek madness as usual. With a huge pile of videos to choose from, here’s the pick of the current crop.

Devin Townsend Project – “Stormbending”

Devin Townsend Project recently released their acclaimed new album Transcendence, and the band are just finishing up a North American tour in of it. Now they are pleased to reveal an epic new video for track “Stormbending”. Devin had this to say:

“Stormbending” was a song that meant a lot to me while writing and when asked to do a video, I really pushed for it. I think the idea of it was based around turning the tide of your own perspectives on things. It’s very easy to get caught up in the negativity and fear that kind of pervades most things lately, and finding ways to fight that away and keep a strong outlook on your own life can be challenging. It’s really easy to give in to it all as opposed to consciously working to better your situation. The video was done by a team of fantastic people in Serbia, and although it’s a challenge to be included in ones own videos, we decided to do one that was more performance based and I think it turned out really quite well. Thanks to everyone involved for making this happen and thanks to you for listening and ing if you do :)

Vasa – “Burst”

Glasgow post-rock quartet Vasa have today revealed an atmospheric slow-motion video for “Burst”, the first track to be taken from their forthcoming double A-side single “Burst Open”, set for release on 29th October 2016 and available via bandcamp or through the Holy Roar Records online store. The band have also just announced an additional run of UK tour dates for November with fellow progressive math-rock band Poly-Math following their recently revealed October tour. Bassist John Niblock comments:

In of the video, we decided to do it ourselves, kind of in-keeping with the DIY aesthetic of this band. It was shot by our Blaine and Niall (guitarist and drummer) and then edited by Blaine as well. There’s no real cohesive story behind it, we just thought we’d have some fun doing some daft stuff on camera, although there are a couple of shots that are referencing real life such as Scott eating spare change which absolutely happened. To quote Blaine ‘It sums up our band: daft things in a pretty package’.

Devilskin – “Pray”

Devilskin are amped to announce their second studio album, Be Like The River will release on Friday November 11, 2016. To coincide with the release of Be Like The River, the band unveil a new video for the single “Pray”.

City of the Weak – “Censor This”

Minneapolis rock trio City of the Weak has released a steamy, defiant new music video for their single “Censor This”. The track will be on the band’s album and was produced by Chiodos vocalist Craig Owens.  Says vocalist Stefan F Huschka:

Craig helped us take this song from 8 to 10. He guided us in making the heavy parts hit harder and encouraged the unapologetic lyrics to be even sassier. One day, we literally just said ‘Fuck it. Let’s just do what we want to do. Fuck everyone else.’ We started this band because we wanted to have a voice that mattered. We wanted to be able to speak to people from the heart, and empower them to live their lives how they want. So we decided to practice what we preach and we spoke from the heart. A couple days later, we had a whole song completely written. We had never been more excited about a song, and it felt great.
