Tiberius are a) named after Captain Kirk (maybe) and b) having their video posted courtesy of the lovely folk in Bad Moon Born paying for their own video to be posted on these pages a few days back. As part of that deal we plucked another independent band out of the mailbox to have their news shared as well.
Edinburgh-based progressive metal band Tiberius have fully embraced the festive season this year with their announcement of a Halloween inspired single, “Of Sheep and Wolves” dropping at the end of this month. However, the spooky song features a further twist – for this track the band have ‘dressed up’ as a classic metal act, with the song displaying strong NWOBHM influences.

“I think after the whole trauma of the pandemic and lockdown we wanted to do something a bit different, just for fun” says vocalist Grant. “Jahan had written this catchy riff and had no idea what to do with it because it wasn’t very Tiberius-y, and something about it just sounded spooky so I suggested a Halloween single and, to be expected, he was immediately on board.”. The rest of the band required very little persuasion either, with guitar player Chris using the opportunity to write and direct a mini-horror film for the track’s accompanying music video, and bass player Ryan once again jumping in to demonstrate his acting chops. Jahan says:
I think we’re heavily influenced by classic metal bands and during the pandemic this song just sort of poured out of me. I think it was important for us to release this as a bit of ‘we do as we please’ statement to the world. Tiberius is a project that is deeply rooted in having fun and enjoying ourselves as we create music which I think is a premise that’s lost on a lot of bands desperately trying to clamber up the industry ladder. Have fun, enjoy what you do and it’s a bonus if other people like it too!
As with last year’s debut album A Peaceful Annihilation, the new single has been produced by Meyrick De La Fuente (Exist Immortal, Godeater, Derange and Vexed) of Floodgate Audio.
Tiberius will be returning to the live music circuit in the first half of 2022, with confirmed festival appearances at RADAR, Powermetal Questfest, Red Crust Festival and more to be announced later this year so keep an eye on social media, including Facebook and Instagram. The new single Of Sheep and Wolves will be available on all major platforms.
