100-Word review: F.A.C.E. – A New Light

F.A.C.E. - A New LightOut since the end of May, A New Light is the debut album from F.A.C.E. Formed by Bulgarian guitarist Villy Neshev, the line-up is like a local “supergroup” of of Bulgarian prog/tech bands. They first came together in 2010 and started recording the album last year.

There are nine tracks on here, and the first genre you may think of is prog when you listen. However, it’s got a very noticeable traditional rock element to the sound as well.

Four of the tracks are instrumentals and Neshev’s guitar style and sound reminds me more than a little of the great Joe Satriani’s. The prog element really comes in with the tracks being marginally connected in a concept-type way.

Musically, you can’t fault it. It’s a lovely piece of work. Not one to really rock out to, more one to savour. Like slowly sipping a fine whisky.
