[avatar =”Talia” size=”50″ align=”left” /]A debut review from our Wench-in-the-South Talia today. This seemed like a fine piratical album to let her sharpen her cutlass on… Sunset On The Golden Age is available from August 1st via Napalm Records.
There are two reasons to listen to this album. The first is that you are in fact a pirate and need some new music to go and pillage to. The second, which I assume will apply to rather more readers, is that you enjoy metal that doesn’t take itself seriously, has awesome lyrics related to piracy and rum and has some really catchy guitar riffs.
From the opening bars of “Walk The Plank”, through the ridiculously catchy “Drink!” and “Wooden Leg” and the synth heavy historical epic “1741 (The Battle Of Cartegena)” there isn’t a bad song on the entire album. While some songs have a slightly harder edge than on previous albums, this a classic Alestorm album, and one which has quickly ed my favourite album list!
