Straddling the genres of post-hardcore and punk, Clouds, Surround & Breathe is a very heavy record compared to others of similar styles. The post-hardcore vocals are particularly throaty, but the pace of the songs is slower than those done by many of the band’s peers.
The less heavy segments, such as the breaks in the 9-minute “Upheaval” are atmospheric as well as musical, giving an edge of prog to the overall tone of the album. Melodic and yet still distorted, it turns the album into a piece of music rather than just a collection of songs.
Different enough to really stand out.
