100-Word Review: Warner Drive – City of Angels

Warner Drive - City of AngelsShifting 10,000 copies of your self-financed debut album is something to crow about ad Warner Drive can do that crowing. City of Angels is their third release overall, following on from 2011’s K-GO! and 2005’s Fully Loaded. A five-piece from LA, they have a wild live reputation and regularly clock up 200+ gigs per year.

Recent tours have included the Vans Warped shows and Rockstar Uproar Fest and live reviews are very positive courtesy of their energy as well as the music. City of Angels was officially release today, so if the following (and the sample track) appeal then you can grab it from all the usual sources.

Warner Drive play a very commercial, easy to get into style of rock and roll. Nothing wrong with that, in my opinion, as long as it’s done well. WD definitely do it well. The album’s got good production and a nice variety of tracks.

Soundwise, I would say that it’s like putting Papa Roach into a melting pot with Shinedown – the slightly poppy/electronic sound of the recent former with the vocal styles of the latter.

Funnily enough, “Boys N’ Girls” makes me think of Maiden’s “The Trooper” – it’s the riff!

Certainly worth checking out. Good “in the car” music.
