Review: Antoinette – Renaissance

Antoinette - Renaissance[avatar =”Mosh” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Just pipping this one to the post – Antoinette’s new EP Renaissance comes out on November 24th and it’s worth giving you lot a head’s up about it.

Combining standard metalcore with a gruffer undertone, the four tracks are catchy yet heavy. Opener “Machines” features guest vocals from SikTh’s Justin Hill. He adds a little bit extra to the usual two-person assault fronted by Benji and Joe.

It can’t be easy creating tracks with a simple hook which are still heavy enough to batter your fellow fans to, but Antoinette have managed it. Second of the four tracks (musical ones, at least – the opening 37-second track is a just an intro), Conform Control” is far heavier and is predominantly meaty beats and thudding rhythm with occasional melodic breaks.

“Misanthropist” ups the tempo, and closer “Avalanche” comes down on you as heavily as the name suggests. You can give it a listen below in the embedded video.

Only four tracks, but four good ones from a band formed early last year. If this is the shape of things to come then, things are in good shape. It’s also a self-released title so deserves your respect and pennies even more for that reason.

I wanted to add some kind of line about handing cake around, but it just didn’t work out. Maybe for the next release!
