The infectious pop/punk treats from Chicago band Knuckle Puck have been engineered to provoke heavy hearts to gulp more blood. The songs shudder the back-room of the mind and they get rid of the dinginess. And if you’re a fiend of this genre, then the acts new record Copacetic will deliver your needs.
The album is brash and filled with drama. The approach the band have taken is a direction which isn’t bumpy or worn thin as there is a sense of originality pulsating inside the songs. There are far too many bands that sound like they’ve drank the same cocktail or played the same riff, but Knuckle Puck are a different, intelligent beast. We also get what we want with Copacetic. It delivers fantastic guitar chugs and pessimistic wordplay.
The album begins with the empowering “Wall To Wall (Deprecation)”. It starts with a push of guitar then the vocals power through. The wordplay is drenched in pain and pessimism, a sense of longing and isolation. “Swing” is powerful and wrapped in wonderful lyrical strands. It describes being alone and not letting go. “Contrite” is the main pleaser. It opens with a brash sequence of guitar which compliments the vocals well. Rage embeds the song and there’s venom in the lyrics.
Knuckle Puck have coped well with the instant fame and they’ve not let it get to their heads and Copacetic is an original blast of pop/punk.
