Essex dwellers The 1957 Tail Fin Fiasco have dropped a new EP. The 3 Song Drive EP, which has four tracks, is a great start to confuse heathens like myself. A few years back their EP Cruise Control grabbed my attention, with their grown up musical skills, lyrics and talent and I’ve followed them in a non-stalkerish way ever since.
The 3 Song Drive EP starts with their viable winning formula of music which is mentioned in the previous paragraph – “Kiki vs Alice from the Breakers”, a track about a loving junkie. Which we all, I am sure, can identify with. “I love you, you junkie, not the Cadillac you can’t drive”. Not many bands can make a story of junkies and their families into a catchy tune. I’ve caught myself roaming the streets of Stratford, East London humming “I love you Kiki Preston, the girl with the silver syringe.” A superb start.
“Big Yellow Box” shows exceptional melody, it’s dancing music. Lyrics that’ll leave that lonely hole weeping within your stomach. “Byron Bay” is the blues chapter of the EP, a nice change up of style. This brings us to “Blended” which ends the EP… unless you click play again. “Blended” has a bit of a David Essex vocal twang in it. There’s also a harmonica a wonderful instrument that adds to the scenario.
The creators are David Myers and Malcolm Moore who are two gentlemen who are in this for the fun. I witnessed these guys in an underground venue somewhere in Hoxton or Shoreditch or one of those other gentrified venues. They opened for another band. That other band didn’t have their energy and charisma, their humour and music skills. Get behind adults making adult music with this great sounding EP.
