EP Review: All Against – Feed The Machine

Due to pressures of time, this will be a short review. Thing is, it’s “only” a 3-track EP by a band you’ve probably never heard of so I could get away with cong it to the “we didn’t have time” pile but it’s just too bloody good not to tell you about it.

All Against have produced three of the best, original, heavy tracks I’ve heard from an independent band in ages and it would be a crime not to give it at least a brief review. Portuguese in origin, this is their second studio release and, bloody hell, will someone please sign them on the strength of it? It’s fast, it’s pounding, it’s just the right amount of technical and yet it’s catchy.

Vocally they remind me of old-school Sepultura (I guess it’s the Portuguese accent) and there are many old-school elements throughout, but it’s just so damn polished. Rui Miguel’s harsh but clear vocals get the band’s angry message across in each of the songs, and the rhythm runs beneath courtesy of Cristiano Estevão’s beats accompanied by cracking bass work by Luis Silva (note that Ricardo Tito is the new drummer since the start of this year, and Luis has been replaced by Emanuel Carmo).

Guitar work is shared between founder member Bruno Romão (rhythm) and André Carvalho (lead)… who has also since departed! If you catch them live now, you’ll see Ennio Alessandro shredding the riffs instead.

OK, so band coming and going aside, we have a great collection of songs. The best thing I can do is advise you to give it a listen… which you can do via the bandcamp player embedded below. If you want the hi-def versions, it’s only €5. Well worth it.
