Dunderbeist were last on these pages back in the heady days of 2014. Wow, time flies. When their new album dropped into the mailbox I knew the name was familiar so decided to give it a listen and I’m glad I did.
Playing a fuzzy, dirty punk rock reminiscent of Turbonegro, the Norwegian band sing not just in their native language, but in their local dialect. OK, it means I can’t understand the lyrics, but full marks for regional pride! Thing is, it doesn’t really distract from the songs being catchy and you can still sing along to some of them pretty easily, such as “Ord” which really caught my ear. For the record, the blurb state that Uro is “a collection of songs that thematically deal with constructed states and words that describe humanity’s terrible qualities and windswept murmuring moods.”
Over the years, Dunderbeist have streamlined themselves from an 8-piece to a 5-piece and focused less on the extras and more on the hard rock at the centre of their sound. The end result is pounding yet melodic, and they’re not afraid to experiment a little as well. “Svikdom” is a good example of this, with light breaks and some spoken word. I get the feeling it’s telling a story (that I can’t understand due to my own linguistic limitations!), but it doesn’t really detract from the music.

The refrains, melodies and backing vocals in “Væromslag” remind me ever so slightly of Skálmöld which is never a bad thing, while the title track is an absolute beast.
A band that obviously cares as much about their history as their music, Dunderbeist have a pretty special sound and Uro is well worth checking out if you fancy something accessible yet a little bit different.

Thanks for review.I love this band. But their new album is nowhere on the net.And why they have so little views on youtube? They aren’t quite unknown band.Pity..
Welcome to the music industry these days. It’s very difficult for any but the most major bands to get large figures – there are just so many acts out there competing for people’s time and money. It’s one reason I personally and the site as a whole try to review as many less well-known acts as we can.
