EP Review: Overdrivers – Rock Out!

A short review for a short, but punchy, EP… Rock Out! pretty much demands you do what’s on the tin, packing a lot into its 12 minutes of fame.

Stylistically, think AC/DC or Airborne. These are three balls out rock songs. “You Cheated On Me” just rattles out of the speakers at a rate of knots, barely giving you time to draw breath. “Factory” is more of a chugger, with a bluesy rhythm. The final track, “Forever Young”, isn’t a cover of the Dylan classic that’s been adapted by scores of artists over the years. Nor is it a cover of Alphaville’s similarly-named song from 1984! Instead it’s an original composition which tags on well with the other pair.

There’s no messing with this little bundle. It arrives, it pounds, it leaves. Then inevitably it gets put on repeat.

As a quick aside, it’s also dedicated to the memory of “our beloved friend and fan, Patrick Dohlandre”. I don’t know who Patrick was, but it’s a lovely gesture and I’m sure he’d be proud to see his name across of the back of the CD sleeve.

Rock Out! is released on July 9th
