EP Review: Tyrant – Tales of Realms Forgotten

Featuring of Argesk and Blood Countess, Tyrant once again hit rewind to 90’s Scandinavia with their newest release Tales of Realms Forgotten.

Right from its very outset the immediate sounds of either the crow or raven Caw/Kraa “Mists of Necromancy” into the opening solo. Right from the off, this grabbed my attention which remained throughout as there are lots of elements that I particularly enjoyed. Before you know it “Sworn to the Elements” had snuck in and engulfed my eardrums.

Without a doubt, “Desolation” is my highlight track. I absolutely loved it when I first heard it, and within this release it’s perfectly placed as it also has the slow build-up leading into an unrelenting fury. This alongside the middle section of the next track, “Decree of Death”, really works well.

The longest and final track of “Sacred Quietus” took me by complete surprise with its slow instrumental start. It did make me think it was going to stay that way and within the context of the release it’s not something I would have even been averse to… but then the drums and vocals swoop in for a while and the track picks up the pace. For nearly an eight and half minute track, this is no mean feat and works really well.

Full of hypothermic scorn & blasphemy.
